Singing for Pleasure

Our adult singers are very active across the region. Pupils perform in concerts with the Academy, and take in both principal and ensemble roles with the local theatre groups including York Opera, York Light Opera, York Stage Musicals; or sing in choirs such as the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir. Our pop and contemporary singers take part in gigs and open mic nights across the area and we have also had pupils in bands who have toured across Europe and the USA.

All of our pupils are invited to sing in our own showcase public concerts. While this is not compulsory, it provides an opportunity to sing for others, and to gain in confidence and performance experience. We will also prepare our adult singers for graded music exams and diplomas, if they wish to take them. 

Of course, some pupils just wish to sing for their own pleasure and they are also warmly encouraged. The confidence and techniques gained through singing can also help them in their business and teaching careers. The Academy also teaches pupils who have come back to singing in their retirement years. Age is never a barrier to learning new techniques and gaining pleasure from singing.
